Most violent gigs you've been to

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-34184563

I stumbled on this article from the BBC news site and it got me thinking about dodgy gigs I went to back in the 70s/80s. I remember seeing the Buzzcocks at Woolwich Poly in early 78 when a load of NF skins turned up and there was mayhem all night. Also saw the Slits in Oxford and me and my brother ended up rucking with about 10 local idiots who didn't fare too well ! I bet some of you lot have some "interesting" tales to tell so let's hear them.

I went to see Crass on Hastings pier.
Must have been about 79 I guess...

Put it this way. We ended up walking home to Maidstone. Skinhead beating.

Number 2.

Punk band in Maidstone. Vocal Attack.....Same again. Skinheads on tour.

Went to see the sultans of ping at the island in Ilford once and bizarrely it kicked off big time. All because of a couple of utter lightweights who didn't like people stage diving so we're punching anyone who did it.

Eventually they punched the wrong bloke and turned into a mass brawl.

Only one, as I dislike gigs so have rarely been to any.

Hilarious

Mate of mine tried to get me to become a Punk, but I was too conservative, didn't fancy all that pogoing and spitting, preferred Soul. He used to hang about with the Bromley Contingent going to all the Pistols gigs in the early days at the 100 club, greyhound pub Croydon. He was on that boat down the Thames when they all got nicked. Remember him telling me that they couldn't go to many straight clubs as they would get too much grief so would arrange gigs at gay clubs like Heaven, skins would hear about it and batter them when they came out, used to get turned over most weeks.

An exploited gig at the 100 club got a bit lively once, first and last time I ever stage dived.

Charlie Harper was standing at the back and the punters were more interested in him than the band.

The first time I went to see Conflict at the Riverside in Newcastle they didn't show. I believe it was the second or third time they police intercepted them on the way up the A1. Anyway, after the announcement was made that they wouldn't show a fight broke out.

Strangely enough, never encountered any trouble at Blaggers ITA gigs, although there were typically a large number of security measures put in place by the band, as C18 used to make a point of targeting their gigs.

Every cunt at gigs these days is more interested in filming it on their phones and then updating their status on social media and texting. All you see is a sea of fucking screens.

Don't even know why they bother going, only purpose appears to be for social media's sake.

Sham 69 at the Rainbow late 70's. Literally ended in a mass brawl between some of the crowd and security, with the gig abandoned.

Some of the mosh pits at gig have got a bit out of hand. The Anthrax 'War Dance' during Indians is quite a sight.

I've never really understood the act of elected random violence at gigs. What happened to stamping your feet and a bit of air guitar! I'm a right light weight tend to stick to the bar, and face it, the state of most venues, that's not hard.

Re: Most violent gigs you've been to
Certainly going to see bands these days is completely different to back then, its all corporate bollocks if you want to see any name act now and you have to buy the tickets 6 months in advance which is ridiculous, I much preferred the old days tbh

Re: Most violent gigs you've been to
My younger brother was a punk, told me a funny story about a gig he was at, him and two mates were on the balcony watching people jumping about at the front, and they saw some skinhead run in and hand out a few slaps. He then went back to his mates, laughing, then did it over again.

My brothers mate said to him 'watch this' and went down into the melee, and the next time the skinhead dived in, my bro said all you could see was his head being knocked backwards.
